The reference list—sometimes the most tedious and boring part of a journal article. Yet, very important! Without a well-formatted and accurate reference list, it\u2019s difficult for readers to verify the claims you make in your research paper or to further explore a topic that interests them. Today, we\u2019re going to cover the basics of formatting the reference list as per the guidelines of the American Medical Association (AMA)\u2019s Manual of Style<\/a>. We’ll specifically focus on the three most widely used AMA style references: journal articles, books, and websites. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reference Formatting in AMA Style: A Quick Summary<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As you prepare your list of references, keep the following in mind:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Number your references.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Order them according to how they were cited in the main text, not alphabetically.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
