The Chicago Manual of Style<\/a> is deservedly popular as it is widely used by journals, publishers (both fiction and non-fiction), advertisers, copywriters, etc. It\u2019s incredibly versatile and can accommodate a wide range of sources. This makes it particularly suitable for researchers in the arts and humanities, who often refer to works beyond the traditional journal article, book, or book chapter. The Chicago style bibliography is fairly easy to create, if you follow some standard guidelines. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Basic format of a Chicago style bibliography <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Here\u2019s what you need to follow at an overall level when creating your bibliography: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  1. 1-inch margins on all 4 sides <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
      \n
    1. Single-spaced entries <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
        \n
      1. One blank line between entries <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
          \n
        1. Arrange entries in lphabetical order, according to the first author\u2019s surname <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
            \n
          1. The heading \u201cBibliography\u201d appears at the top of a new page, after any endnotes. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
              \n
            1. Leave two blank lines between the heading and the first entry. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
                \n
              1. For entries longer than one line: use a 0.5-inch hanging indent for the 2nd<\/sup> and subsequent lines. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
                  \n
                1. Invert the first author\u2019s name (\u201cWatanabe, Mary\u201d not \u201cMary Watanabe\u201d) and list all the other author(s) as usual (\u201cGonsalez, Saraswati and Lucy Thinkamura\u201d) <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
                    \n
                  1. Capitalize significant words in the titles of longer works like books, and italicize them. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
                      \n
                    1. Enclose titles of shorter works (e.g., poems, journal articles) in quotation marks <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
                        \n
                      1. If there are 10 or more authors, list the first 7 and the use \u201cet al.\u201d <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
                          \n
                        1. In case you\u2019re referring to multiple sources by the same author(s) in the same order<\/em>, use a 3-em dash for the 2nd<\/sup> and subsequent sources. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
